Marco’s magic recently kicked off the annual leadership meetings before top international leaders of MTN, a leading telecommunications and business services provider in South Africa and 20 other countries throughout Africa and the Middle East. Opening the morning session with a specially tailored digital countdown sequence incorporating the key themes to be explored in the meeting, Marco appeared with 12 dancers to perform a special version of “Aura,” in which orbs of light split, moved about the stage, soared over the heads of the audience, and, ultimately dived back into a giant video screen where they exploded into a thousand sparks of light, and resolved themselves to reveal the main speaker of the morning session. After lunch, Marco returned, getting things moving with a specially customized version of “The Magic Touch,” followed quickly by his “Interactive Cards” on screen, where he causes a single card from a group of five to vanish – and that card proves to be the one audience members were thinking of! Following this, Marco passed out Rubik’s cubes to the audience, who were asked to thoroughly mix them up. When the cubes were returned to the stage, Marco picked up on and solved it in less than 5 seconds – and then, as if that weren’t enough, asked an assistant to randomly choose another cube and hold it up. In just a few turns, Marco caused the cube in his hands to exactly match the randomized cube held by the assistant. Taking the amazement to an even higher level, Marco proceeded to invite an audience member to randomly select one of 1500 different jigsaw puzzle pieces from a clear plastic box. The piece turned out to be the exact piece needed to complete a puzzle revealed under a cloth on an easel which had been onstage the entire time – a puzzle bearing the logo image of MTN Group! Another volunteer was invited to the stage, and to think of a single playing card and hold up the imaginary card in front of their faces. Marco snapped a picture on his cellphone camera, which he then placed into his guest’s hand, face down. “Please tell us the name of the card you thought of,” he asked. When the guest named the card, Marco asked him to look at the picture on the phone – and it turned out to be a photo of the person holding an actual playing card – the one he had just named! To wrap up his show, Marco brought out a large pad on which he drew a picture of the earth and the wods, “The world of MTN”. Closing the pad, he sqeezed it, and a large real globe fell out, right off the page. Marco showed the page was now empty except for the words he had written. He then proceeded to fold a single piece of paper into an origami bird, which turned into a mechanical bird and flew out over the audience as a voice recited the poem “Wings of the Imagination,” all about imagination and innovation. Following the general session, Marco entertained some of the top company executives with his own unique cellphone magic.
